New school year 2011-2012

Dear Friends
I hope you’ve all had a great summer. As things are starting up again for the new pastoral year, I am eager and happy to see you all again after my holiday. Before leaving I had the occasion to go to the School of Evangelization and it was fantastic! I’m hoping to bring the speaker to meet with us some time this year.
The” School of Evangelization” explains well that every parish and every parishioner has the responsibility to share the joy of the faith with others, and it’s easier then you think!
We will be continuing many of our projects, such as the RCIA program, the Children Catechism Classes and Children’s Liturgy on Sunday, our Parish Supper Book Club; as well as our social justice programs such as our soup kitchen, and our flea markets.
I thank those who are here already helping us build our community, and I welcome those who are getting to know us. Come and join us in making a difference in our community here in Verdun and in getting to know each other as brothers and sisters united in Christ. There is a lot to look forward to.

Fr. Stephen Otvos

Labour Day Weekend
Labour Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in Canada since the 1880s. Many Canadians regard Labour Day as the last long weekend of summer. Since the school year generally starts right after Labour Day, we at St. Wililbrord’s have started the tradition of Blessing the School Bags and the students, praying that they will have a safe and successful year.

Hospitality Centre / Food Pantry
Summer is coming to an end but the fight against hunger never stops. As our outreach programs are soon to start up again, we find our cupboards bare. We ask that everyone please bring in a few non-perishable food items, to help us get started. Our goal is to not have to turn away anyone due to a lack of food.

Episcopal Ordinations
Our Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte will ordain Fr. Thomas Dowd and Fr. Christian Lépine as Bishops of the Diocese of Montreal, on Sat. Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral.
Fr.Stephen has been asked by Fr. Dowd, his good friend, to “assist” him by accompanying him in procession and by taking part in the ceremony.
Everyone is welcomed to attend! Please do!
