World Day of Prayer for Vocations
On the fourth Sunday of Easter, Christians are invited to reflect on the meaning of Godís call and to pray for vocations. The whole Christian community shares the responsibility for fostering vocations. The first step is to live in a full Christian manner. Families with a lively spirit of faith, love and reverence contribute greatly to this work. Spiritually active parishes, where people take full part, help to promote vocations.

Building a Vocation Culture in our parish
Look around you. How many men and women in your own parish are caring and compassionate individuals, good listeners, articulate speakers, loving and enthusiastic Catholics? How Many of these special, gifted people have ever been invited to consider becoming a priest, sister, brother, deacon, or full time lay minister? It is said that 80% of 18 to 30 year olds have never been asked to consider a Church Vocation. The Church needs these people.
Blessed Pope John Paul II wrote: ďthe parish as a community bears witness to the perpetual witness of Christ who calls... Therefore the fostering of vocations must be incorporated fully into the life and activity of the community.Ē
On this Sunday, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, we must ask ourselves how we can better foster Church Vocations in our parish and community at large.
Being the Vocation Director of Montreal I am keenly aware of the importance of vocation ministry. Vocation ministry is a process of discerning and responding to Godís call. It is also about becoming good stewards of Godís many gifts, learning where we are called to offer our time our talents, and our treasure.
I invite you to pray for vocations, and to help build a culture of vocations in our community.
