March 19 – Feast of St. Joseph
Patron Saint of Canada
Dear St. Joseph,
Accept the offering I make to you. Be my father, protector, and guide in the way of Salvation. Obtain for me purity of heart and a love for the spiritual life. Following your example, let all my actions be directed to the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and your own paternal heart. Finally, pray for me that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death. Amen
St. Joseph’s Relationship with the Heavenly Father
St. Joseph has been called the "Shadow of the Father." Like every father, Joseph was called to be a living image of the heavenly father to his child. Any father contemplating this high calling of imaging the heavenly father might be tempted to despair because of personal inadequacies. God is willing and able to abundantly provide for what he commands. The calling to fatherhood is no exception.

Since it is inconceivable that such a sublime task would not be matched by the necessary qualities to adequately fulfill it, we must recognize that Joseph showed Jesus "by a special gift from heaven, all the natural love, all the affectionate solicitude that a father’s heart can know (Guardian of the Redeemer, Section 8 quoting Pope Pius XII).

Development & Peace
Promoting the equality and dignity of women in Afghanistan is an ongoing quest of D&P. Using the model of India D&P offers self help and financial groups which helps the women participate in the social, economic and political life of their community. The sewing, crafts and agricultural programs offered help the women add to the family income.

Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord! Friday March 25
The Annunciation Heralds the beginning of our salvation. By Mary’s obedient “Fiat,” the earth has become heaven. “In Jesus, God has placed, in the midst of barren, despairing mankind, a new beginning which is not a product of human history but a gift from above. (Pope Benedict XVI)
All that our heart cries out for became flesh in Mary’s womb. When we repeat the words of the angel by praying the Hail Mary, the Word of God germinates in our soul. Christianity is this never-ending event of encounter with God made present in the maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The reason why we celebrate the Annunciation now is quite clear if you count 9 months ahead…

This Lent let us make a promise to say the rosary more often.

Second Sunday of Lent
Fast; (from fame and recognition).
In our society success is considered by many to be the main goal in life. Is ambition really the ultimate good in life? Or are other things more important.
“Christ tells us that if we want to join Him, we shall travel the way He took. It is surely not right that the Son of God should go His way on the path of shame while the sons of men walk the way of worldly honour.” St. John of Avila

“When, urged by love, the mind soars to God, it has no sensation either of itself or anything existing. By means of pure prayer the soul escapes completely from the midst of creatures, carried to God…on wings.” St. Maximus the Confessor.
“If everyone would take only according to his needs and would leave the surplus to the needy, no one would be rich, no one poor, no one in misery.” St. Basil
