YEAR OF THE PRIEST

In 1979, Pope John Paul II wrote the
first of his annual Holy Thursday
letters to Priests. Addressing priestly
self-confidence, he wrote:
“Dear brothers: think of the places
where, for many years, people experiencing the lack of a priest, they
do not cease to hope for his presence. Sometimes they meet in an abandoned shrine and place on the altar a stole
which they still keep. They recite the prayers of the Eucharistic liturgy, at
the moment that corresponds to transubstantiation, a deep silence
comes on them, a silence sometimes broken by weeping. So deeply do they
feel the Priest’s absence.

Lord, send us Priests to serve the Church.
Fill them with Your Spirit.
Empower them to act in the person of
Christ. AMEN.
