Year of Faith _- Inspirational Quotes

‘Faith means resisting the brute force that would otherwise pull us under.” (Benedict XVI)

Our faith is never more alive than when what we experience through our senses, contradicts and tries to destroy it. The life of faith is the untiring pursuit of God through all that disguises and disfigures him.
(Fr Jean-Pierre de Causade, S.J.)

As long as you lean upon yourself you will totter. Throw yourself without fear into the arms of God. He will embrace you, he will heal and save you.
Saint Albert the Great †1280)

Feast of St. John Lateran - Nov. 9th

The anniversary of the dedication of the Lateran Basilica, which was erected by Emperor Constantine, has been observed on this day since the twelfth century. This feast was first observed only in Rome but later in honour of the Basilica, which is called the mother church of Christendom, the celebration was extended to the whole Latin Church. This action was taken as a sign of devotion to and of unity with the Chair of Peter which, as Saint Ignatius of Antioch wrote, “presides over the whole assembly of Charity.”

The term, Lateran, refers to a prominent Roman family in old Rome. The Laterani lost their properties to Emperor Constantine who in turn gave it to the Church in 311. This Basilica was built on the Lateran property, and thus it takes its name. It is the oldest church in Rome.
