October: Month of the Holy Rosary
Legend tells us that the Rosary, as a form of prayer, was given to St. Dominic (1170- 1221) by Mary, the Mother of Our Lord, who entrusted it to him as an aid in the conflicts with the Albigensians. The practice of dedicating the entire month of October to the Holy Rosary developed toward the end of the last century. Pope Leo XIII strongly promoted the increase of devotion to the Blessed Mother by encouraging the constant use of the Rosary.
In this month of October, let us consider this beautiful prayer of the Rosary as a means that we too can use in order to draw closer to Jesus and Mary.
** Pope John Paul II has called the Rosary his favorite prayer.
Opening Mass for the Year of Faith
A group of 25 gathered this past Thursday for the Opening of the Year of Faith and the special presentation by Fr. Eric Nicolai on the 50th Anniversary of Vatican II. Special words of thanks go to Fr. Nicolai for the excellent presentation and for his words of encouragement and wisdom during Mass through his homily.

Celebrating Bible Sunday
Sunday – October 21st – 10:30 a.m. (Mass)
Bibles abound in our own language but not so with our aboriginal brothers and sisters. A short presentation will be given emphasizing the importance and joy of hearing the word of God in one’s own language. After Mass, we will have the opportunity to offer a donation to assist in the ongoing translation and distribution of Bibles to our brothers and sisters in Nunavut and outlying areas.
Lakeview Memorial Gardens
This is an invitation to join us at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Pointe Claire on Sunday, October 21st at 2:00 p.m. This will be our 3rd annual visit to the St. Willibrord’s section and to the Field of Honour where we have an opportunity to express our appreciation and respect for the many veterans and for the deceased members of our own families. Should you require transportation, please sign the register at the rear of the church or simply call the Rectory.
We would like to acknowledge and congratulate this wonderful group as they celebrate their 35th Anniversary of presence here in Montreal. Their faithful attendance here at Sunday Mass both in the choir and congregation are a continuing inspiration and witness of God’s all-embracing love.
