Bible Camp

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119 : 105)

Ever since it began in the early 1990’s led by Sister Katherine, the Bible camp has remained an important part of St Willibrord’s Parish. Our camp provides exciting programming that is aimed towards bringing children to relationships with Jesus Christ. We encourage our campers to explore their questions about faith and build friendships in a safe and warm atmosphere. It is a great way to break from daily routines and experience summer in a way that they will never forget. Our goal is to show campers that Jesus can provide answers to the problems of today’s children and youth. Our camp generally runs for two weeks between the last week of June and the first week of July. The church relies on donations from parishioners and other people to keep the cost of running the camp as low as possible. This includes parishioners volunteering their time to help bring the campers closer to God.

In 2009, Sister Katherine retired and Hélène Di Lallo became our Children’s Liturgy Director. In recent years, the themes of the camp have included: “Calling all Heroes” in 2010, “Vocation Nation” 2011 and in 2012 “Making Choices.” Over the years our campers participated in re-enactments of Bible stories, crafts, swimming, cooking and sing-a-longs with musical accompaniment by our Pastor Fr. Stephen Otvos. They have also gone on pilgrimages and field trips to a wide range of places including: St. Joseph’s Oratory, the Grand Seminaire de Montreal, the Nature Reserve in Verdun, the Marguerite-Bourgeoys Museum in the Old Port and the Star Wars Exhibit in the Science Centre just to name a few.

Every year, the campers and the leaders enjoy learning from each other. We are always in need for volunteers including junior leaders and leaders. We hope that the impact of the teachings and the friendships from these two weeks will last throughout their lives!
